Fairfax County is scheduled to relocate the Franconia Governmental Center at 6121 Franconia Road to a new facility in Kingstowne in 2025. Once the new Franconia Governmental Center is completed, Fairfax County has proposed converting the old property into as many as 120 rental housing units for working households. The land at 6121 Franconia Road was transferred to the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority (FCRHA) in March of 2021 during COVID. Out of an 'abundance of caution', the Board held another public hearing on January 23, 2024, on the conveyance of the Property to the FCRHA, to resolve any concerns about the validity of the March 9, 2021, public hearing. Because of the opposition to this project at that Jan. 23 meeting, the Board voted to defer a decision on the land transfer until the community has had more opportunity to give their input.
